Skill of the Month:Â Goal-SettingÂ
Webinar:Â New Year, New Goals
Â
In this session, presented by Dr Daniel Page and Dylan Benyon, we focused on empowering attendees to start their year with purpose and direction. We introduced the SMART goals framework, equipping participants with the tools to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals. Alongside this, the webinar provided strategies to build and maintain motivation, tackle obstacles, and develop habits that last.
Designed to support both personal and professional growth, the webinar offered psychological insights into effective goal-setting. It was an ideal resource for individuals aiming to achieve career milestones, foster personal development, or cultivate balance in their lives. This engaging and informative session inspired participants to make 2025 a year of intentional growth and success.

New Year, New Goals
Â
2025 is here, and it's the perfect time to reflect on our dreams and set meaningful goals. Whether you're aiming for a career promotion, improving your fitness, or strengthening your relationships, having clear goals is crucial for achieving success. So, how do we make sure our dreams don't just stay dreams?Â
SMART goals are designed to make your goals more effective. They are:
Specific:Â Instead of "Be more productive," âž¡ "Complete two high-priority tasks on my to-do list before lunch each day."
Measurable:Â Instead of "Reduce distractions," âž¡ "Limit phone usage to 30 minutes during work hours."
Actionable:Â Instead of "Improve focus," âž¡ "Use the Pomodoro Technique (25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break) for at least two hours each day."
Realistic:Â Instead of "Eliminate all distractions," âž¡ "Designate a specific workspace free from clutter and visual distractions."
Time-bound:Â Instead of "Become more organised," âž¡ "Implement a new filing system for all work documents within the next two weeks."
Setting and achieving goals boosts motivation, sharpens focus, and enhances productivity. It builds confidence, reduces stress, and fosters collaboration while driving personal growth and self-reflection. With clear goals, you unlock purpose, direction, and fulfilment.

How to Stick to Your Goals - Even When Life Gets Tricky
Sticking to your goals isn’t always easy. Some days, you wake up feeling unstoppable, ready to take on the world.  Other days, life feels heavier—curveballs come your way, self-doubt whispers in your ear, and exhaustion slows your every step. If you’ve ever felt like questioning if you can keep going, you’re not alone. It’s in those messy, overwhelming moments your ‘why’ becomes your anchor—and the mindset you choose to adopt will help you press forward.
Â
Here are four ways to help you focus on your goals:
Embrace Patience and Self- Compassion – When you feel frustrated with your goals, remind yourself that growth is a journey, not a race. It’s not about achieving perfection but recognising that every small, consistent action you take is steadily bringing you closer to your goals.. Â
Celebrate Small Wins – When you are working on a big goal its easy not to recognise the progress you are making when your eyes are focused on the grand accomplishment. Each week, take a step back and celebrate the small victories you've achieved. These will fuel you to keep moving forward.Â
Cultivate a Flexible Mindset – Sticking to your goals doesn't mean doing everything perfectly. When you notice things aren't going as planned, see it an opportunity to adapt and not as failure.Â
Set Realistic, Personal Goals – When your goals align with your values and aspirations, you are more likely to stay committed and achieve them. When setting your goals focus on how personal, positive and realistic they are to you.Â

Curiosity Corner
What if I don't achieve my goals?
It's important to remember that setbacks are part of the journey. Use them as opportunities for learning and growth. Analyse what went wrong, identify the challenges, and adjust your approach. Persistence and adaptability are key to achieving success.
How do I stay motivated?
Staying motivated can be challenging, but several strategies can help. Celebrate small wins along the way to reinforce your progress and maintain momentum. Break down large goals into smaller, more manageable steps to make them feel less daunting. Consider finding an accountability partner, such as a friend, family member, or mentor, to share your progress with and provide support and encouragement. Our app, Psyche:Â Mental Health, can also help you stay motivated by providing reminders and progress tracking tools.
Can I have too many goals?
Focusing on too many goals can feel overwhelming. Prioritise a few key goals at a time and shift focus once you’ve achieved them. Our app, Psyche: Mental Health, can help you prioritise your goals by allowing you to rank them based on importance and urgency.
Is it okay to change my goals?
Absolutely! Life is dynamic and constantly evolving. Your goals should reflect your changing circumstances, interests, and values. Don't be afraid to re-evaluate and adjust your goals as needed. Our app, Psyche: Mental Health, allows you to easily modify your goals and track your progress as your plans evolve.
How can I make the process of goal setting more enjoyable?
Make it fun! Use a vision board, create rewards, or find a goal-setting buddy. The Psyche: Mental Health app offers interactive features and gamified elements to make the process engaging and rewarding.
